Michael Kenney
Development Manager
How did your journey with us start?
My journey with Smith Cooper began shortly after I left Sage as their in-house Development Services lead. After more than 15 years developing internal projects, I was looking for a new challenge where I could apply that experience in a more dynamic, customer-facing environment. A mutual contact in the Sage partner network introduced me to Chris Smith, and from our very first conversation, it was clear that Smith Cooper was the right fit. The business had a strong reputation, a clear sense of direction, and a genuine commitment to delivering value. I haven’t looked back since.
What is your role and what does your day-to-day look like?
As Development Manager, my role is both strategic and hands-on. Day to day, my work is incredibly varied, I could be scoping a new project, talking to a customer about a development requirement, writing code, or helping a member of the team troubleshoot a difficult issue. I like to stay involved throughout the project lifecycle to ensure everything we deliver is aligned with how the customer uses Sage 200.
While I manage the delivery of our solutions, I also see my role as a support function to the team helping them stay focused, removing roadblocks, and making sure they have everything they need.
What’s your favourite PKF SCS memory?
There have been a lot of great moments, but one of the standouts was seeing our API platform evolve from a concept into a core part of what we offer. It started as a technical idea, but with the right support and team involvement, it’s grown into a solution that now underpins a number of high-profile integrations. It’s been a great example of what we can achieve when we work together and back an idea all the way through.
What are you most excited about in our future?
Nothing stands still! Both as a developer and within the business, the landscape is constantly evolving. As the company continues to grow, new challenges, technologies, and opportunities are always emerging. That sense of momentum is what keeps things interesting. I’m excited to see how we continue to adapt, innovate, and build on the foundations we’ve created as a team.
