If you’re looking for a new accounting system, but you’re struggling to find one that suits your exact needs, then Sage Intacct could be the solution for you.
Sage Intacct can be easily customised and configured to suit your processes and industry, enabling you to get the most from your investment.

In this article, we’ll cover a few of the different ways it can be customised.
1. API & Integration
Integrating the software solutions used within your organisation allows you to make them work seamlessly together.
Sage Intacct’s built-in API allows you to move data in and out of the system without the need for exporting, reformatting and importing. This allows you to build your perfect software ecosystem, combining best-in-class cloud accounting software with leading solutions for your industry.
There are pre-built integrations available on the Sage Intacct Marketplace. Alternatively, the open API allows developers to build custom integrations with just about any software. Visit the Sage Intacct Developers site for more information about integrations.
2. Custom Dashboards & Reports
The built-in dashboard and reporting tools in Sage Intacct allow you to create just about anything you need to track performance and meet reporting requirements.
There are over 150 pre-built reports available out of the box which can be cloned and tweaked, or you can start from scratch.
- Dashboards:
Build your custom dashboards by dragging and dropping a variety of elements such as KPI cards, quick links, reports, charts and more, providing you with a real-time overview of performance at your convenience.
- Reports:
Select any of the fields in Sage Intacct to build out your reports and customise the layout, filters and ordering as required. Build your own schedule for your reports to automatically run and deliver to the relevant people.
Optional modules such as Interactive Custom Report Writer (ICRW) and Interactive Visual Explorer (IVE) are also available which extend the reporting capabilities further.

3. Additional Modules
It can be quite frustrating investing in software that includes features which you’re unlikely to use, but you don’t have to worry about that with Sage Intacct. As it’s a modular system, you can effectively build your own ERP solution and only pay for what you need.
To extend the functionalities, there’s a variety of additional modules available which are completely optional and designed to cater to different industries.
A few examples include:
- Project accounting
- Fixed asset management
- Consolidations
- Copilot close automation
- Revenue recognition

4. Data & Object Customisation
Custom fields
These allow you to capture additional information that is specific to your business when entering records or transactions, reducing reliance on spreadsheets and additional systems. Fields can be in a variety of formats, including free-text, dropdowns, checkboxes and more.
Dimensions
Dimensions act as tags to help organise, sort and report on your company information, allowing for more granular insights. Standard dimensions available out of the box include customer, department, location and more, these can be customised to be anything you’d like.
List views
A list view allows you to customise the way your data is displayed on list pages such as the Suppliers list. You can add additional columns, reorder columns, edit sort order, wrap text, freeze columns and so much more, laying out your data for maximum efficiency.

5. Workflows & Automation
Smart rules
These are conditions that generate warnings or error messages when users perform an action that doesn’t meet your defined conditions. For example, making sure dates are entered in the correct format or setting transaction limits for users. This ensures everyone complies with set processes and budgets.
Smart events
Smart events are set actions which trigger when defined conditions have been met. For example, sending an email to the sales manager when a sales quote over £10,000 is created. This saves time and helps with collaboration across the business.
Transactions definitions
A transaction definition acts as a template for transactions and includes the accounting settings, workflow rules, and other configuration settings that determine how the transaction behaves. For example, defining if a transaction requires approval, also ensuring everyone sticks to set processes.
