Microsoft are retiring Exchange Web Services (EWS) in Exchange Online meaning from 1st October 2026, EWS will be disabled by default. Then from 1st April 2027 it will be permanently retired by Microsoft.
As a result, applications that rely on EWS may stop sending emails unless they are updated, therefore customers who use specific versions of Spindle Document Management, Spindle Document Distribution, Credit Hound Professional (where emails are sent
via Spindle Document Distribution) from Draycir and Sicon Document Automation need to take action.

What does this mean for customers?
For customers using the below Draycir and Sicon products, with Exchange Online (Microsoft 365 / Office 365), you are advised to make adjustments to your system.
Draycir Users
Products affected
- Spindle Document Distribution v8.15 to v10.15.1
- Spindle Document Management v8.15 to v10.14.1
- Credit Hound Professional (where emails are sent
via Spindle Document Distribution v8.15 to v10.15.1)
Solution
Draycir has released a Spindle Document Distribution patch. This patch is simple to self-install on every workstation that sends emails via Spindle Document Distribution. Spindle Professional users are not affected due to it being released prior to the exchange online connector.
Sicon
Products affected
- Sicon Document Automation v26
- Sicon Document Automation v22.1
Solution
Older versions of Sicon Document Automation use EWS for its Exchange Integration, which links the email mailbox directly to Sicon Document Automation, so the invoices received flow directly into the processing screen. This doesn’t impact the ability to drag and drop invoices manually into Sicon Document Automation.
For v26, Sicon have released a compatibility update and for v22.1 a chargeable service pack will be required. Version 22.1 is considered a mature, stable release, by Sicon, and is no longer under active development. So, supporting Microsoft platform changes on this version requires additional engineering effort outside of Sicon’s standard maintenance programme.
