Sage Intacct Migration & Integration Project
We’ve successfully completed another Sage Intacct migration project, this time for a client in the energy and utilities industry.
Before the move, they struggled with disconnected systems, outdated functionality and a 28-day close. Now, thanks to Sage Intacct and its API technology, all their systems talk to each other, and they’ve slashed their close time.
If you’d like to hear more about the project and how we turned it around for them, carry on reading.
Before Sage Intacct
Before the switch, everything was managed in separate systems, and the close process across the whole company took 28 days. On top of that, the client was about to acquire another business, so more complexity was just around the corner.
They decided that now was the time to upgrade their software and start bringing everything together with integrations. Not only could this address their current challenges, but it would make any future acquisitions easier too.
As a cloud-based accounting system with API integration technology and multi-entity capabilities, Sage Intacct was a clear winner and could continue to grow with the business.

The Project
We kicked things off by spending a few days on-site with the client to understand the business and build relationships with their team.
Together, we mapped out a phased approach for the project, starting by setting up one entity first, with plans to build on from there in later phases. This helped to ensure a smooth transition and worked around their availability.
Requirements
The client had a clear list of requirements, such as:
- Fully cloud-based
- MTD compliant
- Complete audit trail
- Project tracking
- Advanced reporting & dashboards
- Revenue recognition
- Fixed assets management

We delivered on all of this through a combination of Sage Intacct’s core and additional modules. We also configured custom settings such as dimensions, smart rules and transaction definitions to shape the system around their processes.
Challenges
No project is without its challenges; this one threw a few our way:
- As the acquisition was still in progress, information sharing was difficult
- New industry regulation meant billing was more complicated
- Over 8000 customers and 2000 invoices issued per month
- Over 2500 fixed assets requiring depreciation schedules
However, by working closely with the client, our Project Manager and team of Sage Intacct Consultants helped them overcome each challenge.
Integration
Integration was an important part of their vision to achieve a fully connected software ecosystem.
Most of the integrations they needed were already available from the Sage Intacct Marketplace, including; Webexpenses, Quadient and GoCardless. These tried and tested integrations are reliable, don’t break with updates and, as they’re already pre-built, saved the client time and money too.
Our in-house Sage Intacct Developer also completed some custom development work and assisted them with an integration to Tradogram using Sage Intacct’s Open API.
The Results
We delivered the system on time and with little disruption to the team, who are now confidently managing their new Sage Intacct system ready for the rest of their entities to be moved over.
Having everything on one system will make month end, reporting and day-to-day tasks much easier for the finance team. Plus, the wider business now has better access to financial insights, helping them make informed decisions. It’s a big change from where they started and has set them up for future growth.
If your systems feel disconnected or your processes are taking longer than they should, there is a better way. Get in touch with us, we’ll arrange a call to talk through your situation and show you what’s possible with Sage Intacct.
Sage Intacct Migration & Integration FAQs
Can I integrate to Sage Intacct?
Yes, Sage Intacct has an Open API (Application Programming Interface) which allows integration with just about any software. More technical information can be found here.
How long does it take to implement Sage Intacct?
The time it takes to implement Sage Intacct varies depending on your requirements. There are ‘quick start’ packages for smaller projects which allow you to get up and running faster. Larger projects can take longer, especially if you need a lot of customisation and integrations. Send over your requirements and desired timescales and we’ll advise further.
How easy is it to migrate to Sage Intacct?
Ease of migration will depend on your current system and the requirements for your new Sage Intacct system. However, we’ve successfully migrated clients from a variety of systems and have a well-established implementation process designed to make the transition as easy as possible.
