We sat down with Nigel Platt, our Partner Account Manager at Sage UKI, to discuss the long-lasting relationship between our organisations, predictions for the future and us as a Sage business partner.

Nigel began his Sage career 37 years ago (starting Sept 1984), back when he was only 1 out of 5 employees in Technical support.

Since then he has worked in various roles including Accountant & Alliances Manager, Customer Services Manager, and Franchise Manager and has seen Sage go from a start-up business to the FT100 company that it is today.

Nigel has been in his current role, Partner Account Manager, for the last 20 years. This has seen him work with various Channel Partners, like PKF Smith Cooper.

What are your thoughts on PKF Smith Cooper Systems?

Nigel: PKF Smith Cooper Systems have a long-standing reputation as a leading Sage business partner, with some of the best people in the industry – they have decades of experience on Sage software, coupled with vast industry knowledge. Not forgetting, they always focus on doing the right thing for the customer. I’ve known the team for over 20 years – Chris Smith, Richard Brewster, and Richard Torr (to name a few). Even before the PKF Smith Cooper Systems business was founded.

As a Managing Director, I’ve found that Chris Smith has created an excellent culture in the business and built a team of like-minded people.

What are your views on the relationship between the organisations?

Nigel: Sage and PKF Smith Cooper Systems partnership goes well beyond 2014 when the business was founded. As I mentioned earlier, Chris, Richard and the team have been advising organisations of every size and shape on the benefits of business management software for decades.

We have a strong relationship and Sage, at all levels, have a lot of respect for the experience and knowledge that the team have. In fact, Sage often ‘call-out’ to the team at PKF Smith Cooper Systems to get involved in new initiatives, the recently launched Sage Partner Cloud program is one example where they were involved in the ‘pilot phase’.

We have a strong relationship built on experience, respect and trust.

What are the highlights of the partnership between the organisations?

Nigel: For me, it’s great to see PKF Smith Cooper Systems receiving Awards from Sage and being recognised for the great work. For instance, in 2015 (their 1st year of trading) they won Midlands Sage Partner of the Year and in 2020 they were recognised as a Top 3 Sage Partner at our annual awards. The business has gone from strength to strength with strong organic growth and a stellar acquisition strategy. Both of which have seen PKF Smith Cooper Systems become a leading, national Sage partner. Of course, the journey continues.

Has PKF SCS provided support when required?

Nigel: An example I mentioned earlier, is the launch of Sage Partner Cloud. This is a strategic initiative for Sage and PKF Smith Cooper were one of a very small number of Sage partners chosen to participate in the pilot scheme. So, yes they are very forthcoming with any support they can provide.

Do you perceive PKF SCS as a trusted partner?

Nigel: Absolutely, feedback from customers and renewal rates are evidence of the great service PKF Smith Cooper provide to their customers.

We’d like to thank Nigel for his time and we can’t wait to see what the future brings for our Sage partnership!
