Tip of the Week: Integrating with Sage Intacct API

Sage Intacct API Explained

Sage Intacct has an open API which allows any developer to build integrations with other software applications.

If you need to connect a system to Sage Intacct and there aren’t any existing integrations available, the open API allows for a bespoke integration to be built around your specific needs.

In this tip of the week, we’ll share an overview of how integrating with the API works and where you can find technical information.

Anything you can do manually in Sage Intacct can be done via the API. So if you’ve got any data which you re-key into Sage Intacct from an external system, you can use the API to automate this process.

The API uses either Postman or SDK options (.NET, Node.js or PHP) to cover a variety of different needs. Your developer will know which one to use.

Sage Intacct API for Developers

There’s a dedicated site for developers which includes all the technical information to build integrations.

This page is split into sections corresponding to each area in Sage Intacct (e.g. Accounts Payable), including any additional modules such as projects.

When you click into the section you want, there’s a list of different functions.

Click on the one you want and it’ll take you down to that section.

For example, if we click create bill, you can see that it gives us everything we need to build the API call.

You’ll need to add your own parameters into the code on the right hand side.

Generic and Legacy Functions

The API functions fit into 2 categories: Generic and Object Specific (legacy).

  • Generic functions include things like read, update, delete, lookup and query.
  • Object specific functions can only operate on a single type of object.

Object specific functions are marked as legacy, meaning they’re not typically enhanced in new releases. However, there are no plans to get rid of them in the future.

You can use a mix of generic and legacy functions in your application.

We have in-house developers who can build integrations for you or if you choose to use your own developers, we’re happy to support where needed.
