Discover how to set up and start self chasing
The self chasing option in Draycir’s Credit Hound allows you to run rules automatically at regular times of your choosing.
This means letters and diary entries can be generated without you having to do a thing!
In this week’s tip, we show you how to set up and start self chasing in Credit Hound.
Alternatively, you can watch the short tutorial to help better your understanding.
Enable self chasing for your PC
To enable self chasing, make sure Credit Hound is closed and open the ‘Credit Hound Manager’. This can be found in the start menu or searched for.
Next, sign into the Credit Hound Manager with your admin or manager login.
Once logged in, select Setup > Self Chasing.
Within here, tick the box for ‘Enable Self Chasing for this Windows user’.

Set up self chasing
To set up self chasing, go to Company > Configuration. This will open the company configuration window.
Within here, select the company you wish to configure from the drop-down list. Once you’ve selected the company, click ‘Connect’. You should now see the company name within the ‘General’ section on your screen.
Next, click into the ‘Self Chasing’ tab and tick the box ‘Enable Self Chasing for this company’.

You will now be able to add or edit a self-chasing sequence (this is a cycle of rules and actions that can be run automatically).
To create a self chasing sequence, start by selecting ‘Add‘.
A window will appear with three tabs: General, Scheduling, and Advanced.
Within the ‘General’ tab, give the sequence a name (for example: Full Chase Cycle).
Next, the ‘Run As’ field must be populated with the user who will execute the self chasing sequence. If the sequence needs to be executed by a particular network user only, then a Windows User for the machine must be assigned to the self chasing sequence.

Once all the details are entered, click ‘Check Name’ to make sure the details of the user exist within the domain.
If self-chasing needs to be set up where all machine users can execute all sequeneces, then the windows details can simply be left blank.
Within the ‘Rules’ section, click ‘Add’. This will display a list of rules configured in Credit Hound for the selected company. In here, select as many rules as you wish for the sequence.
Pro tip: When running rules in Credit Hound, it’s important you select them in the correct order, so make sure to choose the most severe rule first.

Once done, go into the ‘Scheduling’ tab.
Enter the time of day and tick the day(s) of the week you wish the task to execute. For example, 08:00 Monday to Friday.

Finally, go into the ‘Advanced’ tab. In here, you have 3 options:
- Whether to synchronise data between Credit Hound and your Sage software.
- Whether you want to be prompted about self chasing results, before actions are executed.
- Which printer you want to use for letters and reports.

For letters, once you are confident self-chasing is working, you can set up a sequence to run and execute silently, with the printer selected as Spindle Pro Auto. This way, emails and print outs will automatically generate. Changing the ‘Display mode’ of the Spindle Processing screen means this will close automatically as well (unless there are distribution errors).
You are also able to set this up on the server, and Spindle can be configured in unattended mode, meaning there is no user intervention at all.
Once you’re happy with the self chasing sequence, click ‘OK’ and close out of the Credit Hound Manager.
Start self chasing
To start self chasing, from the start menu on your machine, open ‘Credit Hound’ and select ‘Credit Hound Self Chasing’.
A Credit Hound icon will appear on your task bar (this is found next to the time and date).

Pro tip: Instead of executing the Credit Hound self chasing each time you login to your machine, you could set your machine to start it automatically. So, if you log off at night, when you login you don’t need to remember to execute it.
If earlier you selected to ‘prompt for confirmation before executing the rules’ a dialogue screen will display.
Within this window, you can choose which results to commit by selecting the tick on the end of each row.
Once done, select ‘OK’ and the actions will be executed.
