With recent events like the COVID-19 pandemic and the Suez Canal obstruction, traceability has become a key concern for those in distribution.

These incidents have caused a shift from “just in time” to “just in case” scenarios, meaning distributors have to be able to accommodate their customers’ requests at the last minute.

The International Data Corporation’s white paper, sponsored by Sage, has found that 92% of wholesale and logistics executives are actively engaged in efforts to improve supply chain visibility. However, 59% also worried that a lack of supply chain visibility will cause major issues in the future.

These issues extend far beyond the warehouse environment. Good traceability leads to a more proactive business and better customer service. Get that wrong, and you risk losing parts of the customer base you’ve worked so hard to build – possibly to competitors.

It’s a difficult balancing act. With so much on the line, how can distributors of all sizes stay in step with traceability across their stock without breaking the bank?
