Microsoft has announced the retirement of Basic Authentication in Exchange Online.

As the retirement of Basic Authentication could impact all those using Sage Report Designer (including on Sage 50 and Sage 200), we’re taking you through what these changes mean for you, and what your next steps should be.

What is Report Designer?

Report Designer allows you to edit reports, credit notes and other documents created in Sage 50 or Sage 200, so that they match your branding and what you want the document to achieve. You can add boxes, barcodes and other sections to make your reports do more for you.

What Changes Are Occurring and Why?

Microsoft has announced the retirement of Basic Authentication in Exchange Online, due to decreasing usage amid concerns about protection.

Report Designer uses Basic Authentication to connect to Exchange Online when using the SMTP Report Designer email settings.

This could impact all versions of Report Designer, including those used for Sage 50 Accounts, and Sage 200.

How Will These Changes Affect Me? Do I Need to Do Anything?

If you are impacted by this change, you will be presented with an on-screen prompt which will direct you to a knowledgebase article about how to fix issues caused by it. You can access the knowledgebase articles here.
