Reporting is one of the most important duties if you’re working with company finances. After all, having all that data means nothing if you can’t figure out what it actually means.
Therefore, it makes sense that you would want the accounting software solution you use to be versatile enough to handle all the reports you have to run on a regular basis. This is especially true if you’re putting your money behind a best-in-class solution like Sage Intacct.
Is Sage Intacct like this? What reports can it actually run- and how can they help you?
In today’s article, we’re going to explore the various types of reports available in Sage Intacct – both out-of-the-box and customisable – and how they benefit business leaders.
The General Gist:
With Sage Intacct, you can create reports online or offline. You can create reports online or process and store them offline. Intacct can also ‘memorise’ reports – saving them to run again, as soon as you need them.
Application Reports
What are they?
Reports that come pre-installed with the software and are already created for you.
What else might they be called?
They’re also called ‘standard reports’ due to their standardised nature.
What can I do with them?
You can run them as is, or make slight modifications to them, such as setting filters, or selecting from formatting options.
Below are the standard reports that are available in Sage Intacct, and what they can be used for:
Application | Examples |

Financial Reports
What are they?
Reports that you run from the General Ledger. You can create financial reports using the Financial Report Writer, or by using QuickStart if your company was created with a setup template.
The financial reports you can create fall into two categories – standard reports that come ‘out of the box’ with your software, and ones you can create using the Financial Report Writer. Once created, you cannot modify the structure of the report.
Custom Report Writer Reports
What are they?
As the name suggests, these are reports that you can build with your own combinations of records, fields and calculations. This is done with the help of the Report Wizard.
I can’t see custom reports on Sage Intacct!
To access custom reports, you’ll need a subscription to Customisation Services or Platform Services, along with the related permissions. Custom Report Writer is a standard feature in Sage Intacct, whereas Interactive Custom Report Writer requires a separate subscription.
Interactive Custom Report Writer reports
What is it?
As well as letting you build reports across a range of areas, Interactive Custom Report Writer (ICRW) allows allows real-time interactive analysis of report data.
How do I access ICRW?
Interactive Custom Report Writer is available through subscription. Once subscribed, you can access ICRW reports from the Reports Center or the Reports Menu.
What else can it do?
You can filter and pivot information from reports to drill down into further detail, as well as exporting them to PDF or Excel.
Interactive Visual Explorer Visual Boards
What are they?
Interactive Visual Explorer (IVE) enable you to create visualisations and projects that provide insights into data trends for your company. These insights can answer strategic questions that allow you to more effectively plan and develop your business.
What else can it do?
IVE lets you experiment with your data by adding or removing columns, creating filters, or applying different visualisations. It also lets you create ‘stories’, capturing important trends in your data for future review, or sharing.
As you can see, Sage Intacct offers a wide variety of reports – and if its suite of standard report options don’t offer what you need, customising reports can be done in a few steps with the built-in Wizards. Additionally, features like Interactive Visual Explorer enable users to explore data trends visually, facilitating strategic decision-making and business planning.
